Natural Treatments for Mesothelioma Cancer

Traditional medicine says that cancer should be treated with surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Many patients even select a combination of these allopathic (conventional) treatments in a search for a mesothelioma cure – a cure that never comes, for most patients.
Although these Western therapies can buy mesothelioma patients several months of reduced symptoms, they are also notorious for causing just as many complications as they cure. Chemotherapy often causes nausea and diarrhea, while extended radiation therapy can cause radiation toxicity and permanent scarring of the lungs.
To avoid these complications, many patients turn to natural, Eastern approaches to cancer treatment to deal with their mesothelioma.
Homeopathic Treatment of Mesothelioma
Homeopathy is one of the most common natural treatments for mesothelioma, hailed for its gentle stimulation of the body’s own natural healing mechanisms.
The holistic homeopathic approach to treating mesothelioma is believed to address the underlying cause of the condition rather than only the symptoms, which for mesothelioma patients can include difficulty breathing and chest pain.
Unlike traditional pharmaceuticals, these mild mixtures of herbs and minerals are natural, and they are highly diluted in pure water.
Any homeopathic remedies that are specifically intended to treat cancers such as mesothelioma must be obtained through a prescription, as regulated by the FDA. However, unlike pharmaceuticals, homeopathic treatments are typically not covered by insurance.
Other Natural Mesothelioma Therapies
There are a number of other alternative and complimentary mesothelioma therapies that patients can turn to instead of conventional medicine. Many mesothelioma survivors, such as Judy Glezinski and James Rhio O’Connor (who beat their cancer for 18 and seven years, respectively), emphasized these aspects of their treatment rather than surgeries or chemotherapy.
Other popular natural mesothelioma therapies include:
• Meditation
• Massage therapy
• Acupuncture
• Yoga
• Mind-body therapies
• Nutritional changes
• Supplementation
• Juicing
Some of these treatments work by enhancing the body’s own cancer-fighting mechanisms. Juicing and supplementation (such as vitamin C, garlic and green tea) provide an influx of vitamins and nutrients to the body, which in turn boost its immune system and allow the body to better deal with the cancer cells.
Other natural therapies help alleviate the symptoms of mesothelioma without turning to palliative radiation therapy. Gentle exercise, such as yoga, can help counteract appetite loss, fatigue and anxiety caused by mesothelioma, while acupuncture and massage are also used to reduce pain.
The No. 1 natural therapy for cancer treatment touted by mesothelioma survivors is a plant-based diet, particularly a raw, vegan diet. This type of diet provides the body’s cells with all the nutrients it needs to heal and repair during cancer treatment. Even patients who opt for the traditional treatment route can combine dietary changes to improve their recovery and survival time.
